Case Study - Rybrook Holdings |
"Faster, more cost effective and better supported" Rybrook Holdings' 14 sites offer a range of cars from Bentleys to BMWs, Mercedes to Minis, under both the Rybrook and Rylands names. “Faster, cheaper, better supported.” That’s the verdict given by David Bourne, Group IT Manager of Rybrook Holdings, the UK’s largest group of privately owned car dealerships with regard to the AlwaysON VPN (virtual private network) which connects each of the specialist and luxury franchises with the company’s head office at Coshill (close to the NEC in Birmingham). Easy to add new sitesIn 2002, a review of its broadband network requirements lead the company to AlwaysON. From just one test site, the company has expanded its use of AlwaysON’s next generation, high speed network to all fourteen on, somewhat appropriately, a ‘hub and spoke’ network, with each site connecting to a server in the Docklands. AlwaysON host the server“AlwaysON even helped us with our Docklands server,” said Bourne. “We were costing out the purchase of the server when AlwaysON offered to host it for us. They stepped in and made it easy for us.” Massive cost savings by replacing KiloStreamRybrook uses the network for carrying data traffic between each subsidiary and the centre, and between subsidiaries. It has ADSL Max broadband, giving it 470KB upstream and up to 8MB downstream. This replaced BT Kilostream, which, according to Bourne, was three or four times more expensive and offered far lower bandwidth. IP telephonyRybrook also uses the network’s intelligent routing service to carry voice calls. Each dealership simply dials a specific extension number to be connected to each of the others – calls which are free because they are ‘on net’.
The company also has an AlwaysON ISDN 128k back up system which means that if the service ‘falls over’ it does so seamlessly, with users unaware. Fantastic support“We have seen huge improvements to our network,” added Bourne. “The AlwaysON network is incredibly fast, with no apparent delay or latency. We are making vast savings on managing our data. We get fantastic support by phone and through a web portal. And they are a really easy company to deal with.”
