Reading, Berks - 23 August, 2007 AlwaysON warns of a mobile phone scam that is stealing text messages from users accounts.
The scam originates from a South African phone number. The mobile phone owner receives a phone call from this number: 00278707773277 or one similar. After answering, mobile phone owners have found that up to 200 text messages have been ‘taken’ from their accounts. One user commented on an online forum: “Do not answer this number. I lost 200 texts when I answered."
Simon Cross, Sales and Marketing Director at AlwaysON, commented: “I’ve been getting a number of calls from South Africa. I have received several calls but answered none as I was suspicious. I Googled the number and found a chat box with people talking about it. I just wanted to let people know not to pick up the phone if they receive a call from a number like this."
