FAQ – IP telephony service
What is a hosted IP telephony service? The AlwaysON hosted IP telephony service provides managed telephony services without the need to invest in expensive hardware or software. Service features are not only delivered to a customer’s phone, but can be individually configured by the user through the AlwaysON web portal. Each user can personalise their business phone, according to working habits and preferences, by client or customer and by calling priorities.
Why hosted, rather than a premises-based phone system? The AlwaysON service allows small and medium-sized businesses and multi-site enterprises to lower costs, and removes the onerous task of managing an inventory of PBXs and IP/PBXs. It has all of the same features and functions of traditional phone systems, as well as advanced features found in newer systems.
However, the hosted solution is easier to use plus it improves productivity for internal and mobile employees. The service promotes capital expense savings and on-going cost savings due to browser-based moves, adds and changes, on-net calling between offices, and bundled applications that businesses usually purchase separately, like voicemail, conferencing and unified messaging. It is important to note also that the AlwaysON portal enables both the telephony service and the underlying network links to be administered on-line.
How does the AlwaysON service differ from services that use the public internet?AlwaysON delivers its hosted IP telephony service over a private next-generation network, not the internet, as this is the only way to deliver business-class call quality. The applications were built with a browser-based model in mind, making it easy for channel partners and customers to administer, manage and update their features (such as speed dial keys, phone templates, and moves, adds and changes).
What is Microsoft Outlook Integration? The Microsoft Outlook option enables users to choose which contacts should be synchronized and contacts can be characterised as Personal Contacts, or Company Contacts. Calls can then be initiated from a toolbar within Outlook.
What about conferencing? The base service has up to four-way ad hoc conferencing from the phone itself. With a display phone, the conference can be set up using the soft keys on the display, and parties can be easily added (or dropped) from an ad hoc conference.
