An integral component of the company VPN

Connectivity needs to be fully integrated with the ‘corporate network’, which includes connectivity to other remote and home-workers. This requirement is very different from and should not be confused with the traditional ‘working from home’ solution based on the PSTN and a VPN (virtual private network) tunnel over a residential broadband or dial-up service. The AlwaysON solution is a business-grade service delivered over a fully secure and private connection that is an integral component of the company VPN.

Converged telephony and data services

Telephony is provided by a high quality IP handset that connects directly to the company’s telephone system. This means that the user can make and receive calls as if working from the office and be fully integrated within the company’s contact system. Often, the telephony service is provided by the AlwaysON hosted telephony or advanced contact centre services. The AlwaysON service includes an AlwaysON router so that a PC or laptop can connect to the company network. Public internet access is provided by the AlwaysON tier 1 internet connection, which is fully protected by firewalls and intrusion prevention technology. This avoids the risks associated with internet access using local services that are unmanaged and uncontrolled.

Simple administration

Managing the estate of remote and home-worker services is simplicity itself using the AlwaysON web portal. The administrator, who does not need IT skills, can easily add, change and cease home-worker services by selecting the on-line options, while AlwaysON manages the underlying processes.
